October Guest Designer - Jayashree Anand

Hello MMA fans,

Hello everyone,  my name is Jayashree and i.I'm so happy to be guest designing with Mixed Media Academy today. I created a spooky mixed media trinket box inspired by the moodboard and theme. 

The base is mdf and I created textures through stencil and texture paste. Also I used a mould for my focal element. I used so.e buttons as they are the compulsory element. As purple and green are the main colors of the moodboard i used them on my box. I have a video tutorial  for this box also. Do check that out at the end of the post and leave your valuable inputs.

You can use this box as a trinket box or gift someone you love. Hope you like my project. Happy Crafting  and stay safe.

October Special Guest Designer ~ Madhurima Dutta

Hello hello Mixed media fans...
this is Madhurima here and I am so excited to share with you all my first guest designer project with you all.This month's moodboard is so interesting and have shades of green and purple intertwined with the theme of Halloween (of course since it's October 👻👻👻). 

Seeing the moodboard what instantly came to my mind was of a witch making magic potions on her cauldron and using those to make her candied apples poisonous but unfortunately I didn't have any witch image or something related to it (since I am not a Halloween person),so I decided to go for a spooky little village faraway in the clouds where the witches live and they carry out their witchcraft there.

Here I have used a cloud shaped MDF base  and added some gothic script stencil to the base with texture paste. Then I coloured everything including my embellishments with black gesso and build up my composition with the houses somewhere in the middle and a small poisonous garden below the houses.

 This gives more layers and dimension to the project. After I was happy with the composition, I coloured the project with metallic sprays that had green and purple mica in them. The green was for the lower part of the project depicting the garden and rhe purple, violet and teal were for the buildings and the sky. I have also added the buttons (which is the compulsory element for this month) as tiny details to the houses and the flowers. Ihave used waxes and metallic paint to add light around the moon and also on a single side of the entire composition to make the illusion of moonlight falling on the village.

Now let's move on to check what our Design Team has created 

  DESIGN  TEAM  INSPIRATIONS    

For me, the topic was a challenge in the true sense of the word. Halloween is not a traditional holiday for Bulgarians and although it has been widely celebrated in recent years, for me it has remained foreign. Challenges are a good thing because sometimes they take me out of my comfort zone. My interpretation of the subject is a panel of skulls and flowers. From the colors on the mood board, I chose purple, black, and white.

Pumpkin spice and everything nice!
With the beautiful fall and halloween upon us, this mixed media piece of art makes for a perfect home decoration. A grungy pumpkin with all the shades of violet and orange, is sure to be a show stopper for the season. I have used tons of buttons to my layering of elements to create this spooky fall inspired pumpkin. Hope y'all like it

This months theme is not just spooky but quiet a fun too experimenting your art/craft skills to try out making something out of your regular style.
Here’s is my inspiration creating this little box of horror with everything haunting, creating layers of haunted house, with many mixed media elements around, along with our compulsory element including buttons here

Come October.. it’s Halloween fever everywhere. Trick or treat.. give me something good to eat. By the moon we gather around the pumpkin light, to celebrate this time of the year. Disguise yourself and let’s party long into the night.

'HOKUS POKUS' - magic, Halloween time is coming! I used green and purple shades from our mood board and BUTTONS to make the background on this mdf base. I also used modeling paste and sand paste, a little bit of silver wax and white splashes.

I have made decorative piece for this month theme. I name it as 'haunting'.
The moodboard pictures and colors inspired me to create this. I used spilling glass vessel look with resin for the witch potion look.
I used crackle medium for old spooky look. I used texture paste and stencil to make the spider web look.. used chipboard, clay to complete the piece.

For this month's Hocus-Pocus theme, I took inspiration from the mood board and created a spooky drawer box. I added lot of layers and elements related to Halloween and the moon in the background. The beautiful textures adds depth to my project. Hope you like my project.

Time to get scared in our challenge of the month! I placed the buttons - our mandatory element of the month - as the background of my work, many moldings and the Halloween colors purple, apple green and many glitters of Hocus Pocus!

Hello friends, here is my October creation, the moodboard is just sublime, I was mainly inspired by the superb Mexican make-up "El dia de los Muerto" (the day of the dead), for several years they conquered France. I used a colorful flower visual, romantic patterns, skeleton style.

I love working on MDF bases and this time I have alerted mdf chopping board.. I got inspired by this month's moodboard elements and colors. This is not at all my theme but yes I picked up the colors to create my project.  I love the look of layered buttons here, Hope you all like it...

Hello everyone! I am back with my new project for this month.

I think this is the most popular themes of all and I absolutely loved making it. It's all about Halloween this month and I made an art journal page using distress oxides for background. I created a spooky night scene. Used the compulsory element button in my sentiment. Below are some closeup pictures. Hope you got inspired with my page and will participate in MMA challenge.

This months mood board inspired me to make a spooky mixed media house in the colors purple, green and black. The house is made of chipboards and I have used paint, crackle medium, chalk and stencils to get the look. The green color on the buttons really popped out and made a great effect, just like in the mood board. Now

This month's mood board was actually challenging for me.

Hocus pocus is the best Halloween movie out there. I have tried to create the spooky town for this month's challenge and I am loving the end result.
