Over to Dawid...

My name’s Dawid. I’m from Poland and live in small village in west part of country. I’m receptionist in old palace in dendrological garden. I always loved a handicraft. I started as a child when my mom taught me a cross sticht and crochet. When I finished a studies I discovered a parchment craft and cardmaking. A little bit time later I started to create in mixed media technique and it’s my favourite technique today.

My Project

                                                         About project:
I love altered things, because even the broken things and something what looks like a garbage we can change in something nice and beautiful.  I decided to change old can in something new – container on brushes or pens. I chosen a black color and a little metallic finish. For main decoration I chosen dragonfly.

Instructions:
1. I took old can. I had a can of peas.
2. I covered all can with two layers black gesso. Next I mixed black gesso with magic powder getting in this way a black modelling paste. I added a pattern from stencil with this paste.
3. I added  first  layer embellishments. I glued a twine and metallic embellishments. In next step I covered all with black gesso. On this layer I added next embellishments and I painted every next element with black gesso.
4. I’ve made three different colors of wax mixing together clear wax and shiny powders. The last step was to finish the project by adding waxes in three colors: lustered black, red bronze and shimmer mauve. I added waxes only on the embellishments which allowed to highlight all details.”

Thank you Dawid for this beautiful project.
Wish you all the best.

Hello Crafty Souls...

Today we have the very talented and versatile artist on our blog as our Guest Designer for the month. And she is none other than Adrijana Knez Perger
She is here to inspire us all with her beautiful project. Do visit her blog and leave some love.
Over to Jana...

Hello dear crafty souls and Mixed Media Academy fans!

My name is Adrijana (Jana) aka Paper Beauty AK. I’m 45 years old and I live with my family in a small European country – Slovenia. I’m married to a graphic designer and we have three beautiful children. We love nature ... mountains, sea, forest and animals. And I love gardening.
I've dabbled in a variety of crafts, and my true passion has always been card making: book cards & exploding boxes ... until recently (2 years ago) when I discovered the world of mixed media! Now I just can't stop myself from making a mess!

Thank you so much to the Mixed Media Academy team and dear Vidhi for inviting me to spend the day with them. I’m thrilled and honoured to be here with such a talented group of artists.

My Project

About project:

I was very happy when I saw the Moodboard - it’s amazing and interesting , because you can use so many unusual ideas for designing the project. You can recycle some old stuff and put them in a new look. I was thinking how to use a ligh bulb? I recycled one bulb some time ago, so I got the idea of two bulbs. I really love 3D projects and I decided to create an hourglass. I cut out six circles from the cardboard as a ligt bulbs stand and used two bamboo sticks. I glued all together with a hut gun and colored with a black gesso. When it was dried, I added a mix with a whit gesso, texture paste and art stones.  In the end, I used different sprays, acrylic paints and wax paste. I hope I could inspire you in some way and you’ll like my altered hourglass. Have a nice day!
