Hello!!! Hello!!! My lovely crafters… this is Madhurima Dutta here from India and I am thrilled to be able to inspire you all with my guest DT project for this month at mixed media academy. This month’s moodboard is really gorgeous with all the different tones of purple and lilacs. Since these colors are known to have a very romantic and royal feel to it so I decided to create a crescent moon shaped layout. This layout really depicts my mood right now which is to be in touch with the lovely weather outside as well as to be in love with myself. To add a romantic touch to the layout I have added some fabrics and feathers and altered it to create a dream-catcher which in a sense shows how I love to dream about all the positive things in my life. Hope I am able to inspire you all with my project for this month.

Now lets start with the creation process!!!

# Step 1:

First of all I cut out a crescent moon shape from a piece of cardboard and stick a watercolor paper over it with the help of matte medium.

To it, for added textures I added natural sand ground texture paste and deco art stones ( both from expressions craft).Next up, I applied a coat of crackle paste here and there and then covered everything with black gesso.

Finally I added some metallic sprays- Amethyst (from expressions craft) and Witch’s potion purple and sassy sapphire (from Lindys stamp gang) to bring in the colors of the moodboard on the background base.

# Step 2:

Once done with base I will prepare some embellishments. For that I have used some chipboard cutout (from craftyattire by tuhina) and applied a coat of crackle paste and then used different shades of purples and teals to color them. To add some highlights I have added silver glitz wax from little birdie and electric violet wax crea from finnabair over the purple embellishments and antique gold and aqua sheen waxes from little birdie over the teal embellishments.

# Step 3:

This step is all about layering different embellishments. To start off, I adhered the bigger elements over the base. For more added texture I went in with a piece of cotton fabric dyed with witch’s potion purple. Also, to break the monotone of the colors I added a piece of white net fabric. Next up, I glued a piece of cardboard so that it becomes easier to create the next layers. On the cardboard piece I created subtle texture with tim holtz stencil and texture paste, covered it up with black gesso and went in and colored it with the previously used waxes.

Over the cardboard I added my focal point and around the focal point I added some die cut foliages and also some handmade flowers from expressions craft.

To further accentuate the focal image I added a chipboard frame; embossed it with Immix embossing powder in the shade true blue and hot pink. Next I painted some glass cabochons with electric violet and aqua sheen wax to go well with the existing colors of the moodboard.

Finally to finish off I used different type of laces and fabrics to hang some artificial white feathers, some die cut leaves and a central chipboard element in the shape of feather (from little birdie). I went in and colored the chipboard piece with sassy sapphire starburst spray along the inner areas and with amethyst metallic spray and electric violet wax on the outer corners and on the edges. To top it all I added some glitters (why not!!! Everybody loves glitters) and also some cute little butterflies because nature is incomplete without butterflies!!!

So I am finally done with my project. It was so fun to create according to this amazing moodboard. Thank you all once again to stop by to see my guest DT project. Hope that you guys enjoyed the brief process description as much as I enjoyed creating it. Have fun and happy crafting. Here are a few close up of the project for your kind reference.

Thank you Madhurima for this wonderful tutorial.

August Guest Designer ~ Heikes AugenBlick

 Hello MIxed Media Academy Fans!

Today we have Heikes AugenBlick as our Guest Designer
She created an amazing project inspired by our moodboard this month.

Now over to Heike...

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my guest design project on the blog from Mixed Media Academy. I created for the August challenge a scrapbook layout 30cm x 30cm in mixed media style.

I started on a grey cardstock design paper from 13arts with two layers of clear gesso also from 13arts.
After my gesso was dry I added color glow to my page. Color glow is a metallic shine powder and I used two different color shades in blue. The next step was adding silver glitter, white acrylic color and bordeaux acrylic color with my palette-knife. After that I added my stencil design with Archival Ink and stencils from Hobby shop Sandra, a store here in The Netherlands. Now it was time for  my stamp images with stamps from ScrapFx Australia, LaBlanche and LostCoast Design and black  ink. Some parts of my black stamp images are covered in black embossing powder from WOW. For more texture on my layout I added blue hot wax to my page. Then I painted randomly with black acrylic paint. After everything was dry I glued my photo of my youngest daughter Mia and I added a photo transfer from a polar bear to my background. Final touch markmaking with a posca pen and some tiny stickers from Tim Holtz.
I think I created a perfect scrapbook layout for this awesome mood board with the title
"Be messy and complicated and show up anyways".
Actually for me a mixed media project must always be wonderful messy... that's just part of it, at least for me!! It doesn't have to be complicated.
I hope I was able to inspire you a little bit to join in with this challenge. I in my case would like to say thank you to MMA for the invitation to be guest designer, it was fun for me and I feel very honoured.

Here are some close-up pics of the project:

Hello sweeties! I'm so happy to be Guest Design for Mixed Media Academy.  I'm a romantic lady so I tried to combine the colors and nature theme of the mood board with some feminine elements and I hope it inspires you. I also made a video tutorial and you can watch the creative process.

PHOTO Project

I took a wood heart from the dollar store and gave it a coat of white gesso. After drying, I adhered a piece of lace to one side of the heart. I gave textures with a stencil and modeling paste.  I started to make my composition with a few branches that I found in the yard. I chose some flowers and leaves in the same colors of the moodboard and stick them around the branches. Next, I added some resin pieces like the bird, frames and swirls.  Once everything was adhered it, I gave color in some areas of the stencil work.  Finally, I added more textures with art stones, pearls and metal hearts.

Hello:)

I have this great joy today to inspire a guest for MMA.
For our today's meeting I have prepared a mixed media project on canvas.
The color palette and the theme "dance" inspired me towards flamenco and dance with castanets.
I used this wonderful color combination from the palette and the motto - "do what you love" in the project. I think that everyone of us plays dance somewhere in our soul, we just need to let that expression be expressed in the rhythm of our favorite music :)

I painted the canvas with black gesso, I applied structural paste through the stencil and a little red paint in the corners. I added a composition with a dancer (ITD Collection rice paper) and flowers (leaves from Paper Heaven papers). I also used many lightweight castings :) Finally, I lit several places with Finnabair silver wax. Some more pictures of the project...

Thank you Edyta for this stunning project.
