August Guest Designer ~ Marina Simon

 Hello Hello,
Today we have our JUNE challenge winner Marina Simon as Guest Designer.

She created a gorgeous project for our July challenge inspiration.

Over to Marina

Hello!  My name is Marina Simon and I am very honored to participate as the mood board of the month seemed fascinating to me from the first moment I saw it, everything as a whole seemed wonderful to me, both the phrase "mental illusion", as well as the element to use, the key, the color palette and even the photographs. All this inspired me to alter one of my books, in which I wanted to represent the entrance to the illusion whose door is in our mind.  To open that door, it is each of us who has the key, it is only a matter of deciding and daring to do it, it can be surprising what awaits us there.

Next I will tell you the step by step of my work:

I started by tearing the pages of my book one by one to form that kind of spiral. Apply a base of white gesso and then use stencils and modeling paste to create designs.

When everything was dry, I was layering with washes of acrylic paints in different shades, between blue, gray, black and white, framing all the work in black as well as intensifying the color in the layers of my spiral. With a fine sandpaper, I was lifting the paint in part in order to achieve light sectors in the work. Pictures below:

I painted a sheet in the same shades, applied several stamp impressions that I later cut out and inserted them between the different sheets of that spiral along with a blue mesh fabric. Place four eyelets to pass through them the chain that holds the metal key and add a lock that I made with a mold and porcelain and then I painted with metallic acrylic paints and applied silver glitter.

With the pieces of the leaves of the book that I had cut out, I made the different layers that I placed under the phrase, also adding between them pieces of another red fabric, which I also incorporated between the layers of the spiral and finally added the image of that huge red eye. Some close-ups of the project:
